The staff of West Dover School extends a warm welcome to all students and parents. Special Features of West Dover School
Literacy
At West Dover School we are guided by the science of reading to build strong literacy skills in both word recognition and language comprehension. Skilled reading begins with letters and sounds, phonic decoding, and orthographic mapping.
Indigenous Education
At West Dover School we ground our work in traditional practices shared with by Elders and through the support of our school based Indigenous Education Learning Leader and the Calgary Board of Education Indigenous Learning team. The philosophy and focus is on building a community with strong relationships, integrating the best of western educational thought with the wisdom of Native American culture. Our goal is to ensure that our students experience belonging, mastery, independence and generosity at West Dover and thereby become increasingly able to take advantage of both the challenges and opportunities they will experience throughout their lives.

School Development Plan
Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.
