Greetings West Dover Families,
I'd like to mention that the Parent Association Family Dance was a huge success last Thursday evening! Thank you to everyone for making it a fun and special evening.
This coming week there is no school on Thursday Feb 13 and Friday Feb 14. Teachers will be attending Teacher's Convention. Monday Feb 17 is Family Day in Alberta and so we will return to school on Tuesday Feb 18.
Our school is truly a diaspora of culture from around the world. We welcome and embrace every family and child who attends West Dover. One of the important focuses of our school is around creating culturally responsive curriculum. We aim to celebrate our diversity by designing and delivering learning that recognizes and values all members of our community. That is why in February students are learning about the important contributions of Black Canadians as part of Black History Month. From Viola Desmond who challenged racial discrimination in Nova Scotia in the 1940s, to Michaelle Jean, the very first Black Canadian to be appointed as our country's Governer General, to Rhiannon Hoyle, the first Black woman elected to the Alberta Legislature in 2023. Black Canadians have shaped our Country's development and culture.
A reminder to please return your child's vision testing forms if you wish to have your child's eyesight tested.
Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning.
Roy Strum, Principal
