Greetings West Dover Families,
A reminder that tomorrow is Family Day and there is no school. We hope you are able to enjoy an extra day of special family time on Family Day.
I want to invite to our March School Council meeting that will be held on Wed Mar. 12 at 5:30 pm in the Learning Commons at School. I will share a presentation that has the goal of seeking input from parents about the priorities regarding learning and wellbeing at our school. A survey link will be sent to all families after the presentation that asks for your input into decisions around field trips, around fees, and around learning priorities, and around school culture.
During February, all of classrooms are engaged in some assessment in Mathematics and Reading. In math, students are engaged in some proficiency based assessment work related to place value and procedural fluency. In reading, students will be engaged with some assessment in a number of the following assessments: phonological awareness, phonic decoding, comprehension, spelling, and word recognition. These assessments are related to our School Development Goals of improving achievement in math and reading through improved assessment practices. Coming up March 20 and 21, we will host Parent Teacher Conferences. This is an opportunity to talk to your child's teacher about their learning. If you are curious about what the assessments that we undertaking tell us about your child's learning please feel free to ask your child's teacher. Our goal is to have a normal distribution of achievement where every child is successful.
We want to thank our School Council for the numerous contributions they make to helping students be successful at school. Many of our school council members are regular volunteers on field trips.
Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning.
Roy Strum, Principal
