Greetings West Dover Families
Welcome back to school after winter break! We have completed our first week of school in 2025 and it has been wonderful to reconnect with students, parents and the broader school community after some time away.
There are a few important events coming up in January. Over the next couple of weeks, Kindergarten to Grade 3 students at our school will be engaged with a number of provincial math and reading assessments. On Monday, January 28 report cards will be available on your MyCBE account. On Thursday, Jan 30 we will host our monthly assembly in the gym. All parents are welcome. Then on Friday, Jan 31, there will be no school as Teachers will be engaged in a professional learning day.
We work very hard to create a welcoming, safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment at school. Every year, our grade 4-6 students complete a provincial survey called the Assurance Survey. This survey takes place in January of each year. Each year, students at West Dover's responses rank the quality of learning and sense of belonging consistently higher than the provincial average of responses from grade 4-6 students from across the province. Results from the survey are publicly available on the Alberta Education website.
A reminder that if ever you are curious about how your child is doing with their learning at school, that you are always invited to set up a meeting with your child's teacher to review their progress. In addition, parents are welcome to volunteer in our school.
Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning
Roy Strum,
Principal
