Greetings West Dover Families

This coming week School Council is holding their monthly meeting.  This will take place in the Learning Commons of the school starting at 530pm on Wed June 5.  All parents and guardians are welcome to attend school council meetings. The purpose of school council is to provide a formal opportunity for parents to be involved in the life of the school.  This coming week's school council meeting will be focused on some planning for our end of the school year Carnival that is taking place on Thursday, June 13.

A couple of other events coming up

  • June 10-12 - our grade 5 students will be at Kamp Kiwanis in Bragg Creek for Outdoor School
  • June 13 - West Dover School Carnival - an after school event for the whole family
  • June 22 - classrooms in our school will be learning about the important contributions of indigenous people to Canadian society on Indigenous Peoples Day
  • June 2024 - classrooms in our school will be learning about the important contributions of LGBTQ people to Canadian society during Pride month - June of every year.

We acknowledge that each family and community have unique experiences with different recognitions and celebrations, and any commemorative activities in our schools may be perceived differently. However, classroom-based activities and lessons that promote diversity and inclusion are not subject to exemptions under the Education Act.   Our school aims to be safe, welcoming, caring, and inclusive space for the multitude of diverse families who are part of our community.  Black history month and Asian history are two other examples of work that we have taken up in our school to celebrate the important contributions of the diversity found in our community.

Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning.
