Greetings West Dover Families
Last Friday was Hot Dog Day. Thank you to the parents who were able to volunteer that day. We also want to recognize Calgary Coop Forest Lawn for their donation of all of the hot dog buns and to Mr Allen's brother, who donated all of the dogs again. This is a fun community building day where children enjoy a hot dog at school!
Coming up this week are Parent-Teacher Conferences. Thursday's conferences from 4-7pm will be held online on Microsoft Teams. Friday's conferences will be held in person at school between 8am and 11:30am. Thursday will be our last day of school before spring break. This year Spring Break occurs starting on Monday, Mar 24 until Friday, March 28. We will resume classes on Monday, March 31. Parents and guardians, some good questions to ask your child's teacher are things like; how is my child doing in Math? what can i do at home to help strengthen skills in mathematics; how is my child doing as a reader? how were my child's results on the reading assessments that were undertaken in February? As a staff we work really hard on using assessment to inform instruction. Assessment information tells us exactly where kids are at in things like place value and operational fluency in math, and phonological awareness, phonics, comprehension, word recognition, spelling, and fluency in reading. As the school's Principal, I am very proud of the impressive gains in student achievement that students from Kindergarten to grade 6 are showing. I am also very proud of the hard work of teachers in creating engaging learning and their hard work in improving assessment practices through proficiency based assessment.
I hope you enjoy Spring Break. Looking forward to a restful and rejuvenating break and then onwards to another fantastic week of learning.
Roy Strum,
Principal
