Greetings West Dover Families

I am hoping you have had a restful break.  School resumes Monday, March 31 at 8am.

I would like to share some of the provincial assessment data from our January assessments.  I am very pleased to share that 61% of our Kindergarten and 63% of our grade 1s were assessed as Not Requiring Additional Supports on the Letter Name and Sound assessment.  This is good news as it shows that almost two thirds of our youngest students are working at grade level.  Our goal is to help every child be successful.  These very positive results are a result of hard work of students and instruction that meets every child where they are at.  All of our students receive daily instruction in what's called phonological awareness and phonic instruction.  These are the building blocks of becoming proficient readers.  Reading picture books at home at bedtime everynight is a good way that parents can support their child's reading where sometimes the child reads, sometimes the adult reads, and sometimes adult and child take turns reading.

Coming up this week, Ms McGill's grade 3-4 class is visiting the National Music Center in downtown Calgary.  This free field trip was offered to us by the National Music Centre.

Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning
