Overflow School Designation for Kindergarten to Grade 6 Regular Program Students Residing in Redstone

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Due to continued and unanticipated enrolment growth at Keeler School, the school has reached its capacity. Keeler School will be unable to accommodate any additional students who reside in the Redstone community for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond.

Effective immediately, all new kindergarten to Grade 6 Redstone registrations for Keeler School that cannot be accommodated, including new registrations in SchoolEngage, will be overflowed to West Dover School.

  • West Dover School is in the community of Dover at 3113 30 Ave SE Calgary, AB T2B 0G9, phone 403-777-8260.

All kindergarten to Grade 6 students who live in the Redstone community and attend the overflow school, West Dover School, will be placed on a call-back list and offered a place at Keeler School if space becomes available.

No changes for current Redstone students attending Keeler School.

Redstone students who are currently attending Keeler School and students who are already accepted to Keeler School for the 2024-2025 school year will remain at the school until they transition to junior high school, provided they do not move out of the community.

No changes for Forest Heights students at Keeler School.

Kindergarten to Grade 6 students residing in the designated portion of the Forest Heights community, where Keeler School is located, will continue to be accommodated at Keeler School.

Why is this change happening?

There have been continuous registrations for Keeler School from new students living in the Redstone community at a rate higher than what is normally seen at the school. Growing enrolment has caused Keeler School to reach its capacity, and an overflow must be in place to ensure the learning environment is not adversely impacted.

What is a call-back list?

If space at Keeler School becomes available during the school year, it will be offered to students on the call-back list who are attending their designated overflow school, West Dover School.

Students remain on the call-back list while they attend the designated overflow school. Students will be removed from the call-back list if they move out of the Redstone community, transfer from their designated overflow school, or decline a call-back to Keeler School. Any new registrations received for the 2024-2025 school year will be added to the call-back list based on priority designation and the date and time of their registration.

The lottery process will be followed for kindergarten to Grade 6 for the 2025-2026 school year and beyond. For more details on how we determine priority, please visit our website.

We will make every effort to keep siblings together at a single school. If this is a concern for your family, please contact your designated overflow school to discuss arrangements.

How do I register for the 2024-2025 school year?

Any new registrations from students living in the Redstone community must still register for Keeler School through SchoolEngage. Once these registrations have been received, the school will determine if there is space and resources available at Keeler School.

If the student cannot be accommodated, student information is transferred to their new overflow designation, West Dover School. The student will be added to the call-back list for Keeler School based on priority. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.

Is there transportation for students attending the designated overflow schools?

Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school or overflow school if they live beyond the walk zone. Overflowed students will receive transportation to and from West Dover School once the family submits a transportation registration and it is processed. Please note that transportation fees apply to overflow situations as well.

In the CBE and across the city, we are experiencing a school bus driver shortage that may impact the mode of service provided. Please be assured that we are doing everything possible to restore the reliability of transportation services. Visit Busing & Transportation for information, and to register for transportation, visit MyCBE. Alternatively, families may use a paper form that is available on our website.
