Greetings West Dover Families

A few updates for the coming week.  I would like welcome Katya Banks to our staff.  Katya is working as an EES EA and brings an abundance of skill, training, and understanding of working with children in a learning setting.

This coming Wednesday, Oct 9, our school council will be having the Annual General Meeting starting at 5:30 pm in the Learning Commons at school. School councils are mandated by the Education Act in Alberta.  All parents are welcome to attend.

This coming week we will have a guest teacher from Germany present in the school. Christine Siemen is a school administrator from Guxhagen, Hessen, Germany.  She is participating in an exchange program that exists between the Hessen province and Alberta to help teachers and administrators learn about how school operates in another country.  I was in Germany from June 30 until July 10 this past summer doing the Germany part of the exchange.  Now Christine will be working alongside me (Mr Strum) this week to learn about how school operates in Alberta.

This week Mr Sawatzky's grade 5-6 class is at the Campus Calgary Open Minds program.  Last week, Ms Byblow's grade 5-6 class was at the Arts Commons participating in Open Minds there.  Upcoming in October, Ms German's grade 3-4 class will be participating in Open Minds at the Calgary Zoo.  Also this week, Ms Hill's grade 1-2s will be on a field trip on Wednesday Oct 9 at Fish Creek Provincial Park.  We are happy to be able to do so many field trips and are appreciative of the our School Council who helps to make sure there are no field trip fees for families at West Dover School.

Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning

Roy Strum, Principal
