Greetings West Dover Families

A couple of important events this coming week:

  • Monday, Sept. 16 - Terry Fox Run - every classroom in the school will participate in the Terry Fox Run during their scheduled PE classes with Ms. Burt, our PE teacher.  If you would like to send a loonie or toonie as a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation, we will collect those funds and send them to our contact at the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research.
  • Thursday, Sept. 19 - Welcome back to School event - this event will start in the Gym at 5:30 PM for a short presentation that introduces all of our school staff and welcomes our families back to West Dover School for another fantastic year of learning.  from 5:40 PM until 6:30 PM, teachers will be in classrooms.  Please stop by your child's classroom to meet their teacher and learn about the learning program.  This isn't a parent teacher conference night, but if you want to share personal information about your child, it is best to arrange a time with the teacher when you can meet on a different day.
  • Friday Sept. 20 - Hot Dog Day - we will be having our first hot dog day of the school year on Friday, Sept. 20 in the morning. Ms Nicholls, our school secretary will be sending home a dietary restrictions form, to let us know if your child has an dietary restrictions e.g. halal meat or vegetarian options

We had our first of six fire drills on Friday Sept. 13.  It always amazes me that we can evacuate our building in under 90 seconds with 245 students and 25 staff in a calm and orderly manner.  As we do every year, we will also be working with the Calgary Police Service to practice lock down drills two times over the school year.

Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning,

Roy Strum, Principal
